Overview

Short Tour Description

This tour comprises a spectacular e-bike journey within the Baix Emporda region, followed by a hike up to the summit where Montgrí Castle towers above the surrounding area. Before you get to the grey rocks of the castle, you will cycle through continental sand dunes covered with a magnificent pine tree forest.

The construction of the castle commenced in 1294 but it was never finished or used. The construction works stopped in 1301. The hike to the top of the mountain is wonderful! If you still have energy once you reach the top, then we recommend that you climb the final stairway to the top of the tower to take some photos and try to capture the panoramic views that will surround you in all directions! The unfinished castle provides fabulous vistas across the area. You can see the Pyrenees in the distance, the Mediterranean Sea and the Medas Islands, the Gavarres mountain range and the open plains of Empordà. From here you can clearly make out the crop patterns within the fields, with narrow roads running between the grasslands. This tour is not to be missed!

This tour includes a mixture of e-cycling and hiking and is the perfect combination for a fun-filled day full of adventure. On the flatlands, approaching the Montgrí mountains, you will enjoy a flat and pleasant, relatively easy ride. Crossing the sand dunes and as you climb up towards the Montgrí mountains, the cycle and hiking slopes get steeper and steeper and are typically classified as moderate.

Discover Castle Montgrí

We were on holiday in Catalonia, Costa Brava and found this tour. It was a great experience for a day to discover some unique spots, recommended by a local guide. The e-bikes really were helpful and great fun! Now I am determined to buy one! The combination of biking and hiking was perfect! Thanks for a wonderful day!
